The number of victims of Houthi mines escalated in Al-Jawf

The number of civilian casualties in Al-Jawf Governorate has increased due to the explosion of landmines and explosive devices left by the Houthi militia, as not a week passes without the deaths and injuries of this buried death in various directorates of the governorate.


In the context, a civilian was killed, on Sunday, by the explosion of a landmine planted by the Houthi militia in the outskirts of Al-Matun District, north of Al-Jawf Governorate.

A local source said that a mine planted by the Houthis at the foot of the Ham mountain range exploded while Hamid Ahmed Ashan (al-Deeb) was collecting firewood in order to sell it to support his family.

He added that the citizen (Al-Deeb) died of his wounds sustained by the mine explosion.

This crime comes two days after the martyrdom of a citizen from Shabwah and the injury of his brother by a mine explosion in the Khub and Al-Shaaf District, while they were on their way to offer condolences for the death of a friend's son in Al-Jawf.

A local source said that Mubarak Saleh Al-Ajji Al-Megrahi was killed and his brother Salem was injured as a result of a mine explosion in their car on a dirt road in the “Al-Mahashima” area of the “Khub Al-Sha`af” district.

A government committee counted the killing and wounding of twenty civilians, including children and women, and the destruction of 3 vehicles last week by the mines of the Iranian-backed Houthi militia, in the districts of Khub, Al-Shaaf and Al-Hazm in Al-Jawf governorate.

The Rights and Information Committee of the Local Authority in Al-Jawf Governorate stated, in a statement, that the mines planted by the militias in the agricultural areas in the districts of Al-Hazm and Khub Al-Sha`f in the governorate killed three civilians, including a woman, and injured 17 others, including 3 children and 12 women, and damaged three personal vehicles of citizens.

For his part, the Director of the Human Rights Office in Al-Jawf Governorate, Abdul Hadi Al-Assar, revealed today, Monday, that “190 people were killed and 385 cases of injury, maiming and disability, in addition to 78 cases of vehicle destruction, and about 165 cases of psychological damage to the relatives and families of the victims, until the end of the year. the past".

He added: We record civilian casualties almost daily, and we monitored 815 cases of mine violation from 2015 until the end of last year.

Al-Assar confirmed that dozens of civilian casualties have been caused by mines since the beginning of this year, according to what was reported by the Yemeni Landmine Monitor.

The Director of the Human Rights Office in Al-Jawf Governorate stated that most areas of the governorate are contaminated with mines and are in a catastrophic situation. The Houthis have planted large and random fields of mines in agricultural lands, roads, government buildings, schools, and areas where citizens move.

He pointed out that the districts of Khub, Al-Shaaf, Al-Ghayl, Al-Maslub, Al-Hazm and Al-Matun are the most districts of Al-Jawf in which the Houthis planted extensive networks of mines.
