Hodeidah, Newsyemen, private:

The Corona virus in Al-Hodeidah represented an opportunity for many girls to set up their own projects, especially preparing local meals and delivering them to homes after the restaurants in the city were closed, most of which were closed due to barbaric Houthi practices.

In a statement to "Newsyemen", Maryam Ali, 25 years old, indicated that she had started work on her own project in preparing pastries and cakes before Corona appeared in Hodeidah, and her work was a reliance of her family as a daily source of income, but her work doubled after the restaurants were closed.

Maryam stresses that, despite the high demand for her products, the financial returns cannot meet the needs of the home in light of the high prices.

The situation is not much different for Fatima Jaber (30 years), who is good at making cakes for occasions.

The high food prices have made it difficult for her to continue her work, before it recover again with the spread of the virus.

Fatima adds: The rise in prices was a barrier to my project, as I lost a lot of my customers because they were unable to buy, so the price of the lowest cake I make was 6 thousand riyals, so the average citizen does not buy as it was previously, where the price was 2500, but after the spread of Corona, previous customers returned to me and I started selling again.

Since the Houthi militia invaded the city of Hodeidah, it lacks restaurants and cafes that allocate places for families, as the war caused most of them to close and the global pandemic came to close the rest of them.

In a statement to "Newsyemen", Yusra Abdulrahman said that private project products are a temporary alternative to what the big restaurants in the city offer.

She added: We had one restaurant in Hodeidah, the Saraya Restaurant, and Corona came to close it, so we lost the only outlet for families in the city that no longer had any garden, restaurant, or café due to the barbarity of the militia and its stranglehold on us.
