Martin Griffiths, the Secretary-General's Special Envoy to Yemen arrived in Sanaa, at noon Wednesday, from the Saudi capital, Riyadh.
Griffiths is scheduled to hold talks with the leadership of the Houthi militia - the Iranian arm in Yemen - aimed at reducing the escalation of military confrontations, especially on the Marib al-Jawf fronts and the western coast.
Griffiths' visit to Sanaa comes after a visit he made last Saturday to the city of Marib in light of the escalation of confrontations surrounding the governorate after the fall of Al-Jawf governorate with the coup militia.
These calls were answered by the Prime Minister of the legitimacy government, Dr. Moeen Abdulmalik, by saying, "The calls for international and international calm to reduce the escalation should be directed and committed to the coup-led Houthi militia that took advantage of the armistice in Hudaydah under the Stockholm Agreement to open new fronts and deepen the humanitarian catastrophe that caused it," stressing that Talking about any consultations in light of this Houthi escalation and the continued coup plotters to implement the Stockholm Agreement makes no sense unless there is effective international action to pressure the militias and the Iranian regime supporting the acquiescence of a political solution.
The UN envoy to Yemen met yesterday in Riyadh with the new Secretary General of the Gulf Cooperation Council, Nayef bin Falah Al-Hajraf.
According to a brief statement published by Griffiths, the meeting was devoted to "discussing the situation in Yemen."
The international envoy thanked the Gulf Cooperation Council for its cooperation and continued support for its mission.
