Rasha Jarhum, an independent Yemeni researcher and member of the coalition to monitor human rights violations in Yemen, revealed shocking information about the enormous budget of the United Nations envoy to Yemen Martin Griffiths and his team and the UN mission in Hodeidah.
Jarhum reviewed some information about the political mission of the UN envoy in Yemen, noting that the budget of the envoy's office in Yemen exceeded what was allocated to the mission in Syria, as Martin Griffiths budget for 2019 amounted to about $ 17 million, and this budget year will reach 18 million compared to $ 16 million to the mission in Syria.
Researcher Jarhum attached her information to documents that revealed that the number of Griffiths office staff reached 95 employees last year and will rise to 101 during this year, most of them are international employees. By comparison, in Syria there are 91 employees.
The researcher said, in a series of tweets posted on her official Twitter account, that the expenses of the office of the envoy Griffiths related to aviation are at an average of $ 1.3 million annually.
As for the international mission of Hodeidah, the budget for the year 2019 reached $ 56 million, with a monthly disbursement rate of between $ 2.4 - 4.6 million.
The number of Hodeidah staff reached 183 in 2019 and will rise to 159 in 2020, with 21 positions, 15 of which are for local staff.
As for the ship's rental to the Hodeidah mission headquarters, Jarhum revealed that it reached $ 810,000 a month. There is a recommendation to stop chartering the ship from March 2020 and to renovate and rent villas inside Hodeidah.
In 2019, Jarhum says, the Hodeidah mission rented the Four Seasons Hotel (not sure whether it was in Amman or in Hodeidah) for $ 3 million, villas of 1.8 million, villas affiliated with the World Food Program and accommodations in Sanaa with half a million together.
