The World Health Organization announced the departure of the second batch of Yemeni patients on a private plane that took off from Sanaa airport to the Jordanian capital Amman, as part of the humanitarian medical bridge that was launched, last Monday, to treat chronic conditions in both Egypt and Jordan.

"Today, the second United Nations medical airlift flight from Sanaa to Amman-Jordan took off today," the organization said, in a statement issued on Saturday evening and posted on its Facebook site.

The statement pointed out that the trip carried 24 patients and their companions to receive treatment outside Yemen.

The World Health Organization considered these trips a lifeline and hope for those patients who need them most.

Martin Griffiths, the Secretary-General's Special Envoy to Yemen, welcomed the arrival of the second medical airlift today from Sanaa to Amman.

Griffiths said, in a statement issued on Saturday evening that this trip comes after the first flight that arrived last Monday to the Jordanian capital, explaining that the two medical bridge trips together transported 31 Yemeni patients to Jordan to receive life-saving medical care due to the lack of treatment options for their cases in Yemen today.

It is noteworthy that the second flight was scheduled to leave on Friday, but it was not possible to conduct it on time for technical reasons, according to the health organization.

The incurable and chronic medical conditions on the waiting list for transport outside Yemen as part of the medical medical bridge include about 32,000 patients from the governorates under the control of the Houthi militia.
