Marib authorities arrest al-Muqri journalist without charge, prevent visit

The Yemeni Journalists Syndicate on Sunday evening revealed that a journalist was arrested by the security authorities in Marib province, controlled by the Islah Party, the local branch of the Brotherhood, without a charge and prevented him from receiving visits.

A member of the Journalists Syndicate Nabil al-Asidi published a communiqué received by the Syndicate from the family of journalist Mohammed Ali al-Muqri that he was arrested by the Political Security Organization in Marib.

Mohammed Ali al-Muqri disappeared on March 16, 2019, in Marib province after leaving the house of a Sheikh he had been living in Marib since fleeing the Houthi militias when the militias raided his family house in Ibb province when they controlled the province in 2015 because of his journalistic and media activity.

Al-Muqri's family said to the journalists Syndicate It found out that he was detained by the Political Security Department in Marib. After many people continued demanding his release, some of them said they he had surrendered himself, and others said he has not a charge, according to a testimony of the Deputy Political Security Department.  

The family added that "no one was allowed to visit him in the Political Security Prison. A number of those who were imprisoned next to him reported that he was suffering from a deteriorating health condition and told them that he was arrested while he was heading to bring Qat in a market in Marib without mentioning any reason.

"The family revealed that the wife of the journalist who was detained without any charge in Marib felt ill after being informed of his arrest and she died in extreme pain oppression on 26 June this year.

The family of the imprisoned journalist demanded that the Journalists Syndicate fulfill its human rights role to demand his release, and hold the authorities accountable for his arrest in a prison.
