Dozens of families were forced to leave their houses, southeast of al-Mocha, west of Taiz, after sand dunes and the Houthi militias' landmines surrounded agricultural land.

The farmer Saleh Ayesh said that dozens of families left al-Jaruba, al-Shabba'a, Bazyah and al-Dabulah, southeast of Mocha district in the province.

He added that the sand dunes, water scarcity and an inability of farmers to deepen their wells, which dried up the water, led them to escape to al-Khukha and al-Rammah and Qataba areas in search of a new income to support their families.

Remaining families face hard living conditions. Some have turned to grazing sheep or doing marginal work. Residents said to Newsyemen they face difficulties to get drinking water despite the onset of rainfall.

They said that they brought pure water from far away on motorcycles. The current wells need to be further deepened after the water has dried up due to the drought that hit these areas before a rainy season.

The civilian al-Ruwaie said to Newsyemen that the remaining of al-Sader trees' trunks will be disappear within weeks if it is not protected after the sand dunes has buried five nearby wells.
