A source in the local authority in the capital, Aden, said that the estimated cost of restoring and rehabilitating the Aden Hotel, which was damaged as a result of the Houthi war in 2015, amounted to $40 million, according to estimates by the engineering team.
The source added that the leadership of the local authority in the capital, Aden, assigned an engineering team to submit a comprehensive report on the Aden Hotel building in the Khor Maksar district for its rehabilitation and return to service, but the engineers' recommendation was beyond the financial capabilities of the city of Aden.
He continued by saying: The engineers recommended demolishing the building and building a new hotel in its place, due to the exorbitant cost of restoration, but the demolition process will cost a huge amount, which was opposed by many, since the hotel is considered one of the most important modern landmarks of the city of Aden.
The source pointed out that there are investors who applied to the local authority to invest in the hotel, and they are restoring and rehabilitating it, in exchange for investing in the hotel until they recover the cost of restoration in the form of annual rents.
The Aden Hotel is one of the most important symbols of the city of Aden, which was built in 1982, at a cost of 38 million dollars.
The Aden Hotel stopped for several years, and underwent restoration in 2010 when Yemen hosted the Gulf 20, at an amount of $35 million, where 7 floors out of 10 were restored, and it returned to providing tourism services, but it faltered after that, and after that it was destroyed by the Houthi war.
The hotel investment sector has witnessed a great boom in the capital, Aden, where many hotels have been established since 2015, driven by the number of guests who visit them, including merchants, citizens and travelers, which reflects the volume of influx to the capital.
Despite the recovery of demand for hotel services in the capital, Aden, the most prominent hotel facilities that were damaged by the conflict are still closed and are no longer being restored and rehabilitated, namely: Aden Hotel in Khor Maksar District, Gold Moor in Al Tawahi District, Mercure Hotel in Sirah District, and Al Qasr Hotel.
According to investors in the tourism sector, the hotel sector in the city of Aden is the most flourishing sector after the war, and more than 95 percent of the hotels damaged by the conflict have been restored and operated.
Othman Al-Dhubhani - the owner of a real estate office - says that through his office dozens of hotels have been rented in the capital, Aden, to Yemeni expatriate investors abroad, stressing that most of the hotels that were stopped due to the war, whether due to damage or looting, were rented to investors starting from 3 years. Thousands of dollars and no more than 9 thousand dollars per month.
The city of Aden has witnessed the construction of more than 15 new hotels since 2015, including 8 hotels in the Khor Maksar district, and the rest of the new hotels are distributed among the rest of the districts.
The prices of accommodation in hotels in Aden increased due to the increase in demand, and hotel accommodation prices range between 25 thousand riyals and 45 thousand riyals per night.
According to the statistics of the Tourism Office in Aden, after the liberation of the capital, Aden, from the Houthi militia, the total number of tourist facilities in Aden governorate is 180, including 70 hotels, and they are classified as 3-star and 4-star.
