Aden, NewsYemen:

The southern forces made important military and security gains, during the military campaign Seham Al Sharq "Arrows of the East", against al-Qaeda in the Abyan Governorate, southern Yemen.

In the early stages, the military operation succeeded in securing the coastline, which was the most important artery for supplying terrorist elements with weapons across the sea, and it witnessed intermittent and theft operations.

The southern forces were also able to spread along the international coastal line leading to the adjacent governorate of Shabwa, to return the movement to the line after truck and vehicle drivers avoided it, especially at night, due to the increase in intermittent and theft operations carried out by armed gangs in the towns of "Ahwar, Mojan and Al-Khobar".

The security belt forces redeployed in the Ahwar sector and set up points along the road, and last month witnessed a complete cessation of intermittent operations and to secure the lives of travelers for the first time since August 2019 after the entry of pro-Brotherhood forces into the area.

In addition to securing the international road, the southern forces succeeded in purifying the most important camp of al-Qaeda located near the coast of Abyan (Mojan camp), which is a very rugged mountain that the organization has taken as a camp for three years and is one of the camps from which terrorist operations were launched that targeted Aden and Zanjibar, the capital of Abyan.

The forces were able to enter and purify Wadi Mojan in the middle of last month, after battles with the organization, during which a number of southern forces were killed and wounded, and the teams dealing with explosives and mines were able to completely remove and purify it.

Restoring security to the central region after years of absence

In the second phase, Operation Arrows of the East achieved another success, which is securing the central region (Lawdar, Mudiyah, and Al-Wadea), which are districts that have long suffered from al-Qaeda elements.

Al-Qaeda elements were taking the cities of (Al-Wadea and Mudiyah) as a stronghold for the establishment of its most prominent leaders, before the southern forces dealt a painful blow to the organization after securing the two districts completely.

After the security belt forces returned to deploy in the central region, the latter witnessed relative stability that was absent for years, after terrorist elements spread death in the region with assassinations, bombings and kidnappings that have not stopped since August 2019, not to mention the banditry and forced robbery.

In sum, it can be said that Operation Seham al-Sharq is the beginning of a new phase in Abyan, whose title is security, safety and stability, while waiting for the southern forces to move to purge the Al-Mahfad district, the last stronghold of terrorist elements in the governorate.
