International praise for the presidential and government decision and criticism of Iran's arm
English - Saturday 10 September 2022 الساعة 07:03 pmThe decision of the Presidential Command Council and the government regarding facilitating the entry of oil derivatives to the ports of Hodeidah, which is under the control of the Houthi militia, the Iranian arm in Yemen, received wide international praise from the United States, Britain and France, which at the same time criticized the Houthi militia’s prevention of oil derivatives from entering Hodeidah ports according to the established mechanism.
The US ambassador to Yemen, Stephen Fagin, said in a press statement that the decision highlights the president’s deep commitment to peace and his desire to give top priority to the well-being of the Yemeni people, pointing out that this decision comes with the delay caused by the Houthis’ prevention of suppliers from following a good mechanism that was established in coordination with the United Nations, which has facilitated the smooth entry of oil derivatives ships since the beginning of the armistice last April.
Fagin pointed out that the Houthis' delay in entering the oil derivatives ships had negative humanitarian consequences, represented by raising the prices of oil derivatives and the scarcity of their availability in the market for basic public services, including hospitals.
The British Ambassador to Yemen, Richard Oppenheim, welcomed the decision of the legitimate government to facilitate the entry of fuel ships to the ports of Hodeidah.
He said, in a post on his official Twitter account, that the Houthi actions would have caused unacceptable suffering to the citizens, noting that UN mediation is the way forward and we support efforts to extend the truce.
For its part, the French Embassy in Yemen, in a statement via its Twitter account, indicated that the decision demonstrates a great sense of responsibility and President Al-Alimi's firm commitment to peace, and his desire once again to put the interests of the Yemeni people first.
He explained that this important decision comes at a time when the Houthis prevented importers from respecting the established mechanism, which is managed by the United Nations and which has allowed the smooth entry of tankers since the start of the armistice in April 2022.
The Houthi embargo has had dire humanitarian consequences, leading to increased prices and reduced availability of gasoline in essential public services, including hospitals," he added.
And on Thursday evening, the Yemeni government announced the exceptional approval of the United Nations request, to allow a number of fuel ships to enter the ports of Hodeidah, provided that their legal procedures are completed simultaneously under the UN mechanism.
The government explained, in a statement, that since August 10, the Houthi militias began forcing companies and traders of oil derivatives to violate the laws in force and the international UN mechanism in force since December 2019 to import fuel through the ports of Hodeidah.
It pointed out that the militia is seeking, through this, to thwart the truce sponsored by the United Nations, and to escape its obligations, especially those related to paying the salaries of employees in its areas of control.
