Aden, NewsYemen, special:

The broadcast of a video clip showing journalist Ahmed Maher making a confession, about a month after his arrest by security forces in Aden, sparked a state of widespread controversy on social media between activists and followers.

Maher, who was arrested with his brother early last month, held the position of media official for the dismissed Minister of Transport Saleh al-Jabwani, in addition to holding a military rank in the Transportation Brigade led by Brotherhood Brigadier General Amjad Khaled, who is accused of being behind a number of terrorist operations in Aden.

Maher appeared in a video clip, confessing about his relationship with Amjad Khaled and his knowledge of the details of a number of assassinations in which the man is accused, including the assassination of Major General Thabet Muthanna Jawas last March.

The circulation of the clip caused a state of controversy on social media between a defender of security and those who took advantage of resentment to launch a campaign against the security services and the Transitional Council, defending the charges against Maher and acquitting Amjad Khaled.

Exploitation by the Brotherhood’s media and activists to attack the Transitional Council and its security services in Aden because of Maher’s anti-transitional orientation.

The Brotherhood's campaign was considered by activist Farid al-Awlaki, in his tweet on "Twitter", as questioning the role of the security and intelligence services in combating terrorism in the southern regions, considering that this is what the Brotherhood aims for.

On the other hand, journalist Adel Al-Madwari sees, in his tweet, that "attempting to exonerate a terrorist accused through the Brotherhood's Twitter pages will not work and merely blows the air."

Al-Madawori demanded that anyone who has an opinion or is with on the issue of Ahmed Maher's arrest should go to the prosecution and the judiciary in the capital, Aden, and provide all the information he has regarding whether he has a relationship with him or dealt with him.

The writer and politician Saeed Bakran, for his part, sees the need to quickly refer Ahmed Maher to the judiciary if he is accused, and added: And let the judiciary say its word according to the law... If otherwise, they released him immediately without delay.

He called on the President of the Southern Transitional Council, Major General Aidarous Al-Zubaidi, to urgently intervene in the case of Ahmed Maher and direct his case to be referred to the judiciary immediately, "and let the law take its course for him or against him."

Journalist and human rights defender Ahmed Al-Wafi indicated in his comment on the incident that he did not trust the confessions broadcast during the last period, pointing to the release of prisoners who had previously broadcast their confessions of committing crimes and it became clear that they were without a case.

While Al-Wafi confirms the existence of organized terrorism targeting Aden, he sees a catastrophic security and intelligence failure in confronting terrorism and tracking its threads, stressing the need for a professional intelligence security presence.
