User complaints have increased about a significant decline in the 4G service provided by telecom companies in Sana'a, about 6 months after the launch of the service, which raised doubts about the reality of this service.
Dozens of "Yemen Mobile" and "YOU" subscribers confirmed the decline in the level of service provided by the two companies during the last period compared to its level when it was launched, despite not covering all governorates of the republic so far. And limited to some major cities.
The subscribers’ sarcastic and sarcastic comments about the quality of the service flooded into the publications of the two companies on their pages on social networking sites, which talked about the launch of the service in a new area; Demanding to improve it first in the areas where the service was previously launched.
Specialists assured "Newsyemen" that the decline of the service is a natural matter that exposes the truth of what the two companies claim to provide Internet service with 4G technology; Although it has become an old technology globally (launched in 2009) with the spread of the fifth generation 5G.
They explained that these two companies only carried out a process of modernizing the equipment, coverage towers and broadcasting systems in the areas where the service was announced without having the technical ability to provide a real service in the transmission of data at the level of the fourth generation.
While the specialists pointed to the remarkable improvement that users saw in the quality of communications and coverage in these areas, they emphasized that the quality and speed of the internet provided exposes the reality of 4G.
Noting that 4G technology is characterized by its ability to transmit data at speeds ranging between 100-150 MB/s; Compared with 3G technology, which has a maximum speed of only 30 Mbps.
Noting that the maximum speed obtained by the first subscribers of the 4G service in Yemen Mobile and "YOU" did not exceed 30 MB / second, which exposes the reality of the service provided and the real inability of the two companies to provide it.
The specialists added that the provision of 4G services is not limited to the installation of transmission devices and towers for the service; Rather, it depends primarily on the presence of greater Internet service capacities at the telecommunications companies than the submarine cables that work to transfer data between countries of the world.
Noting the setback that Aden Net has suffered and its inability over the past four years to expand its coverage and subscribers, as a result of the process of encrypting the new submarine cable that entered service in 2016, prompting the Government’s Ministry of Communications to extend a fiber-optic cable from Saudi Arabia as an alternative with the aim of launching the service liberated provinces.
Specialists questioned the ability of telecommunications companies in Sana'a to provide 4G service, while the "Yemen Net" company, which has a monopoly on internet service provision in Yemen, has been unable to provide higher speeds to its subscribers for years.
