Saudi Arabia and America confirm their support for the Yemeni Presidential Leadership Council

 The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and the United States of America, in a joint statement, affirmed their firm support for the truce in Yemen brokered by the United Nations, and stressed the importance of its continuation and progress to turn it into a lasting peace agreement.

The statement said that US President Joe Biden "expressed his appreciation for the role of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques, King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, and His Royal Highness, Crown Prince Muhammad bin Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, in achieving and renewing the armistice."

The two sides stressed their long-stated goal to end the war in Yemen, calling on the international community to take a unified position calling on the Houthis to return to peace talks under the auspices of the United Nations, based on the three references including Security Council Resolution 2216 issued in 2015, as the political agreement between the Yemeni parties, he is the one who can permanently resolve the conflict and reverse the severe humanitarian crisis.

The statement said: "The two sides affirmed their support for the Yemeni Presidential Leadership Council, expressing their thanks to the council for its commitment to the truce and the steps that contributed to improving the lives of Yemenis throughout the country, including facilitating the import of fuel and the resumption of flights from Sanaa."

The two sides also stressed the "necessity of removing all obstacles to the flow of basic commodities and the delivery of aid inside Yemen, and the importance of the Houthis opening the main roads leading to Taiz - the third largest city in Yemen, which has been under siege conditions since 2015".

The statement stated: "The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and the United States encouraged all regional actors to fully support the armistice, which resulted in the longest period of peace in Yemen in the past six years. The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia welcomed the United States' support for the armistice and its contribution to efforts to advance the political process in Yemen".

He stressed the importance of maintaining the free movement of trade through strategic international sea lanes, particularly Bab al-Mandab and the Strait of Hormuz, and welcomed the newly established Joint Task Force 153 to focus on the security of the Bab al-Mandab Strait in the Red Sea, and to further deter illegal smuggling into Yemen.

According to the statement: "The two sides welcomed the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia's assumption of the leadership of the Joint Task Force 150, which promotes the goals of joint maritime security in the Gulf of Oman and the northern Arabian Sea."

They stressed "the importance of preventing Iran from acquiring a nuclear weapon, and the need to deter Iranian interference in the internal affairs of countries," according to a joint statement that addressed many issues.
