The United Nations, along with the international community, failed to maintain and determine the fate of the floating “Safer Reservoir,” 8 kilometers from Ras Issa port in Al Hudaydah Governorate, without maintenance since 2016.

According to observers, the failure is an inevitable result of the non-transparent handling of the parties familiar with the Yemeni file, which is primarily concerned with establishing security and stability by obligating the conflicting parties to the peace process and condemning the obstructing party from the reality of reports, briefings and violations that have consumed lives and time since 2018.

Today, after these years of back-and-forth and indifference by Iran's arm in Yemen, the United Nations is leading a plan worth an actual $80 million to prevent the floating tank from exploding, however it may fail.

The British newspaper "The Guardian", in its latest report, confirmed that there is a donors' conference that is expected to be organized by the United Nations, next Wednesday; With the aim of collecting the sum to confront or prevent the explosion of the Safer oil tanker.

The Guardian report confirmed that funds are required to unload more than 1.14 million barrels of oil that has been in the dilapidated cargo ship for more than 6 years due to Houthi intransigence and turning the matter into a bargaining chip.

Al Houthi and the three references

The Houthis, according to international and local observers, are dealing with an imminent environmental disaster as they dealt with the three references, the "Gulf Initiative" that was the outcome of the 2011 crisis, and the "National Dialogue" 2014, which fell for several considerations, the most important of which is the Houthi militia's invasion of Sanaa; Before the "2216" resolution came, which calls for handing over weapons and ending the coup and other conditions that the Houthis rejected altogether.

This was followed by the “Stockholm Agreement” 2018, which killed the hopes of those looking to bring the Houthis closer to the dialogue table or at least stop the most important source of revenue, the port of Hodeidah, and strengthened the role of this group in the scene in the way we are witnessing today.

All parties, unanimously following the progress of the political and military process in Yemen, made a grave mistake in stopping the battle of Hodeidah, in which a number of leaders and soldiers of the national resistance fell, and it was just around the corner from liberation.

The tank, unanimously by engineers and environmental experts, is a time bomb that will cost Yemen, the marine environment, fishermen, the countries bordering the Red Sea, the international corridor and the Bab al-Mandab Strait heavy losses that may exceed billions of dollars, other than the damage that people know from similar experiences and events. However, al-Houthi deals with the matter with clear blackmail; A strange and incomprehensible complacency on the part of the international parties.

Expensive blackmail paper

The United Nations estimates, according to the Guardian, that more than 200,000 fishermen will lose their jobs and that $20 billion will be needed for the clean-up.

The Dutch showed their interest in the matter, as the ambassador appeared in the city of Sanaa suddenly about a month ago for this urgent file, but the matter is still outside the militia's interest and agenda despite all the facilities and privileges.

This was preceded by the Houthis signing a memorandum of understanding on March 5 that allows the United Nations to transfer about 1.1 million barrels of oil from the ship, to a safe ship that remains in place. In addition to purchasing a new tanker for the Houthis within 18 months to replace (Safer), however attempts have failed so far.

Exhausting all solutions

With guarantees from the Dutch ambassador in addition to previous agreements, al-Houthi and the international community have exhausted all the solutions and options offered, and everyone has no choice but to wait for the disaster to occur.

It is part of the agreement to withdraw the ship Safir and sell it for scrap without holding the Houthis any legal or commercial liability, given that the 45-year-old tanker is rapidly decomposing. In addition, the inert air on the ship that normally prevents the explosion has dissipated, according to reports.

Observers do not find any justification to make the matter delayed any longer, which means that everyone is concerned to do the necessary before the last explosion.
