Grundberg in Muscat to change the position of the Houthis on the Riyadh consultations
English - Thursday 31 March 2022 الساعة 07:04 pmA diplomatic source said that the United Nations envoy to Yemen, Hans Grundberg, is trying to persuade the Houthi group to participate in the Yemeni-Yemeni consultations sponsored by the Gulf Cooperation Council, in the Saudi capital, Riyadh.
The source - who asked not to be named - explained in a special statement to "Newsyemen " that the attempts to change the Houthi position on the Yemeni consultations that started yesterday (Wednesday) in Riyadh did not stop.
He said that the international envoy left Riyadh, after participating in the opening session of the Yemeni consultations, to the Omani capital, Muscat, to meet the Houthi negotiating delegation, which is residing there, as part of ongoing regional and international efforts to get the group to attend the consultations.
The source did not rule out a shift in the Houthis' position on the Yemeni-Yemeni consultations, even in their last moments.
Earlier, the Houthi group rejected the Gulf call, and responded with a military escalation that affected economic facilities and energy facilities in 6 Saudi cities, as a message that it did not want to engage in a settlement that would end the war and lead to political arrangements that would establish a new stage.
