With the advent of next Saturday, the war in Yemen will conclude its seventh year and enter its eighth year, amid questions about the military outcome of the war, which is now being dated to the moment of the announcement of the launch of "Decisive Storm" on March 26, 2015 by the Saudi-led Arab coalition.
The main objective of the war or the operation was to defeat the Houthi militia by restoring the legitimate authority represented by President Hadi over Yemen after ending the Houthi militia coup against the state through the liberation and restoration of the capital, Sanaa.
However, the military scene after 7 years indicates this, as Sanaa and northern Yemen are still in the grip of the Houthi militia, with the exception of half of the area of Taiz governorate, two districts of Ma’rib and Hodeidah governorates, and the desert areas of Al-Jawf governorate.
While the only achievement of the war or Decisive Storm remains the complete liberation of the south after the Houthi militias were expelled from the southern governorates they occupied, namely Aden, Al-Dhalea, Lahj, Abyan and parts of Shabwa, while the governorates of Hadhramaut, Mahra and Socotra remained safe from it.
This contradiction in the military scene in the north and south, the Brotherhood and the forces associated with it are trying to exploit it to target the coalition countries by explaining its reasons as a conspiracy from them to divide Yemen by imposing the pre-90 AD borders, and that it facilitated the liberation of the north while deliberately keeping the north under the grip of the Houthi militia.
The Brotherhood presents this narrative as a response to the accusations leveled against it and the forces allied to it within the legitimacy of standing behind the military defeats of the legitimate fronts, and that it held the file of the war in the north through its general Ali Mohsen al-Ahmar.
An accusation confirmed by the fact that all the fronts that were suspiciously defeated or stagnant in front of the Houthi militias, the only link between them was the Brotherhood and Al-Ahmar group’s control over them, while the rest of the fronts outside of this control, such as the transitional fronts and the joint forces on the west coast, won or held out.
The last of these suspicious defeats was witnessed by the Haradh front last month, which was optimistic about ending the stalemate that the front has been experiencing for nearly 4 years, after the coalition announced the launch of the battle to liberate the city of Haradh, which is not more than 15 km from the Saudi border.
Optimism prevailed, although the operation came under the leadership of one of the most prominent loyalists to the Brotherhood and General Al-Ahmar, the commander of the Fifth Military Region, Major General Yahya Salah, but that optimism did not last for more than one week only, during which time the Fifth Region forces continued to talk about encircling the city of Haradh and near break into and liberate them.
The matter ended with a sudden withdrawal of the legitimate forces from the positions they controlled at the entrances to the city of Haradh and its surroundings, and the matter did not stop there, but the Houthi militia managed to double its victories and crawl towards new sites outside the Haradh district.
During the past week, the military media of the Houthi group broadcast scenes showing some of the battles that the group's militias fought in Haradh, and indicated that they were able to penetrate and regain control of areas within the districts of Midi and Hiran, adjacent to Haradh, which the legitimate forces had liberated during the past years.
To add the battle of Haradh to the list of suspicious defeats of the legitimate forces during the past three years, starting with Al-Oud and Maris in Al-Dhalea, passing through the fall of the Nihm and Al-Jawf fronts and the fall of the Qaniya front in Al-Bayda and the subsequent southern districts of Marib, and finally with the fall of the Al-Bayda fronts and the western Shabwa districts, and from there to the Murad districts. The Houthi militia reached The last line of defense for the city of Ma'rib, which is the Balk Mountains.
Bitter defeats have been experienced by legitimacy over the years, along with the coalition and all the opponents of the Houthi group, and it does not seem that they will stop in light of the continued influence and control of the Brotherhood and their Red General on the decision within the legitimacy and the military file.
