US envoy calls for truce in Yemen before Ramadan
English - Wednesday 23 March 2022 الساعة 06:25 pmOn Tuesday, the US special envoy to Yemen, Tim Lenderking, called for a truce in the country, ahead of the holy month of Ramadan, early next month.
In a statement published by the State Department on Twitter, the US envoy said, "There is a need for a truce in Yemen now more than ever."
"We hope that all parties will agree to a truce before Ramadan, for the sake of Yemenis," he added.
"The United States welcomes the efforts of the UN envoy to Yemen, Hans Grundberg, to advance peace in Yemen," Linderking added.
Earlier, on Tuesday, the European Union mission to Yemen called for the implementation of a truce in the country, during the month of Ramadan.
On Sunday, the United Nations Special Envoy to Yemen, Hans Grundberg, announced that he had discussed with the Houthi group and Omani officials the opportunities to declare a possible truce in Yemen during the month of Ramadan, which will begin in early April.
