The terrorist Houthi group announced its refusal to participate in a dialogue to resolve the conflict being held in Saudi Arabia, at a time when the Gulf Cooperation Council is seeking to bring together the two sides of the Yemeni war, Agence France-Presse reported Thursday.
According to the agency, the Gulf Cooperation Council is leading diplomatic efforts to hold consultations in Riyadh between the Yemeni government and the Houthis at the end of this month in an attempt to stop the devastating conflict.
However, an official in the Supreme Political Council of the Houthi group (the most prominent political authority of the rebels), confirmed the group's refusal to go to Riyadh for dialogue.
"AFP" quoted the Houthi leader, preferring to remain anonymous, "We will welcome the invitation to dialogue in a land other than the territory of the countries of aggression," referring to Saudi Arabia and the countries participating in the Arab coalition led by the Kingdom.
Earlier, a high-ranking source told NewsYemen that the State of Qatar had expressed its willingness to compel the Houthi group to accept participation in consultations sponsored by the Gulf Cooperation Council between the parties to the conflict in Yemen.
The source, who requested anonymity, said that Qatari officials had informed Saudi Arabia, earlier, of Doha's readiness to work on bringing representatives of the Houthi group, to hold consultations with other Yemeni parties in Riyadh.
He added that the Gulf Cooperation Council has drawn up a plan to invite the Houthis and other Yemeni parties to hold consultations in the Saudi capital, Riyadh, in light of indications from Qatar that it can guarantee to persuade the Houthi party to participate.
