The incident of the customs authorities seizing 52 anti-armor missiles on their way to Al-Houthi at the Shahn border port in Al-Mahra brought back talk about the nature of the Omani role in the conflict in Yemen and the allegations of neutrality about this role.
The details of the incident raise - according to security sources - a list of questions in view of the size and type of the seized weapon and the method used to attempt to smuggle it from Omani territory into Yemen, which was revealed by the customs authorities at the port.
According to the Director of Shipping Customs, the operation was carried out with great professionalism, to hide the missiles in four boxes inside electric generators, where a small dynamo was installed as an alternative to the generator machine to function normally when operating at the port, but the vigilance of customs officials revealed the plan.
The Russian Kornet missile that was seized at the port is described as a "tank killer", as it is one of the most powerful anti-armor missiles, and Iran has worked to develop a copy of it and later supplied its militias in Arab countries with it, which is likely to be the shipment coming from Iran.
According to security sources, the type of weapon and the method of smuggling it, the court confirms the existence of a clear facilitation by the Omani authorities, which are known for their tight security grip, which makes it difficult to bring in this weapon and pass it through the Omani territory without detection.
Noting that a new smuggling attempt was seized less than 48 hours later and at the same port, a shipment of wireless communication devices that can be used militarily, and preliminary investigations indicated that it was on its way to the Houthi militia.
While the leaders of the Houthi group and its activists remained silent and did not comment on the incident, it was noteworthy that Brotherhood leaders and others close to them tried to cover the matter either by denying the incident or by providing strange explanations for it.
Where the Undersecretary of the Ministry of Information in the legitimate government and the leader of the Brotherhood, Muhammad Qayzan, lied, the Yemeni Customs Authority announced the seizure of the shipment, as he said in a tweet to him on “Twitter”, that Oman supports the legitimate government, and will not accept that its lands be a corridor for smuggling weapons or anything that harms the interests of Yemen and Saudi Arabia.
Qaizan, who, in addition to his government position, manages the Brotherhood's "Suhail" channel, considered the media attack on the Sultanate of Oman aimed at disturbing the fraternal relationship between Yemen and Oman.
While Qizan lied about the incident, the former Minister of Transport, who is close to the Brotherhood, Saleh al-Jabwani, presented a second account in his tweet on Twitter, in which he claimed that the missile shipment belonged to the Ministry of Defense in Marib.
Al-Jabwani claimed that the competent authorities - he did not specify - were intending to hand them over to the Ministry of Defense in Marib, and said that the coalition refused and that President Hadi contacted the authorities in Mahra and ordered them to hand over the missiles to the coalition.
Al-Jabwani, who is considered one of the figures affiliated with the Brotherhood and has been residing for periods in Oman, concluded his tweet by saying that this "proves our suspicions about this process through which I want to implicate the Sultanate in such a suspicion."
Brotherhood figures issue the task of defending the suspicious Omani role and denying the missile seizure incident. Observers see it as a natural thing to preserve this role, which represents the link between them and the Houthi militia and its ally, Iran.
