Angelina Jolie leaves Yemen and calls for a quick solution to the conflict
English - Wednesday 09 March 2022 الساعة 06:23 pmAngelina Jolie, Special Envoy of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees, left Yemen, Wednesday, after a three-day humanitarian visit during which she sought to mobilize international support for the displaced in the country.
And last Sunday, Jolie arrived in Aden, as part of a United Nations mission aimed primarily at drawing the world's attention to the human suffering in the forgotten countries, and urging the international community to mobilize donations for the annual conference for Yemen to be held on March 16.
On Tuesday evening, UNHCR quoted Jolie as saying that “we live in a world where suffering and horror dominate the headlines, where these headlines can lead to overwhelming sympathy and international solidarity.”
She added, "I hope that this sympathy and solidarity will extend to the Yemeni people, who urgently need a quick and peaceful solution to this conflict, and to all displaced persons, whoever they are and wherever they are in the world."
Since her arrival in Aden, Jolie has carried out field visits to the camps of displaced people fleeing the terrorism of the Houthi militia, including the "Al-Kandam" camp in Lahj, which includes dozens of displaced families.
The American star appeared, in photos and videos, as she embraced a Yemeni woman who was thrown by the Houthi militia war into the camp, which includes 35 displaced families.
Later, the UNHCR Goodwill Ambassador appeared on the ground with two displaced Yemeni girls, in a camp for the displaced, and taught them to write, in a remarkable humanitarian scene.
The American star managed to grab attention since the landing of a UN plane carrying it at Aden International Airport, before moving overland to Lahj Governorate to visit the first camp for the displaced, in an event that topped the concerns of Yemenis on social media and local and foreign media.
