The Special Envoy of the Secretary-General of the United Nations to Yemen, Hans Grundberg, announced the start of a series of consultations with leaders of parties, political organizations, effective national forces and civil society organizations on a general framework for a new plan to revive the stalled peace process in the country for three years.
In conjunction with the optimistic international mediator’s announcement, the terrorist Houthi militia vowed, during a demonstration yesterday (Monday) in Sana’a, to implement what it called the largest “air hurricane” on oil facilities in Saudi Arabia and the UAE.
In a statement, the Office of the UN Envoy said that Grundberg began in the Jordanian capital, Amman, a series of consultations with leaders of parties, political organizations, effective national forces and civil society organizations on a general framework for a new plan to revive the stalled peace process in the country for three years.
The statement added that Grundberg will hold bilateral meetings during the first week with "leaders from the General People's Congress, delegations from the Islah and Yemeni Socialist parties, and the Nasserist Organization."
He added, "More than 100 Yemeni men and women from political parties, the security sectors, the economy, and civil society organizations in Jordan and Yemen will be consulted in the coming weeks."
The Special Envoy will continue his consultations with the government and the Houthi group, as well as with regional and international stakeholders, according to the statement.
"Efforts will be made to consult with the broader Yemeni public, including youth, to ensure that the framework reflects the needs and aspirations of Yemenis," the statement said.
He noted that "building on the UN envoy's previous interactions, these consultations will focus on defining the immediate and long-term priorities for the political, security and economic tracks."
"There is an urgent need to establish an inclusive process that reverses the trajectory of the devastating conflict, which is approaching its eighth year, and provides opportunities and space for dialogue on multiple levels," Grundberg said.
