Diplomatic sources in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, which is under the control of the Houthi militia, the Iranian arm in Yemen, revealed the failure of diplomatic efforts and attempts to obstruct the issuance of Security Council Resolution No.  February 28, 2022.

The sources told NewsYemen that the failed diplomatic efforts were led by Houthi leaders located outside Yemen in cooperation with diplomats from the Sultanate of Oman and Iranian diplomats working within their countries’ representations at the United Nations.  of a (terrorist) movement, as well as to prevent condemnation of its terrorist attacks targeting Saudi and Emirati civilian lands and objects.

According to the sources, those efforts that Iran tried in particular to lead alongside the representatives of the Sultanate of Oman by trying to persuade Russia to use its veto against the resolution, but those efforts failed because of the ability of representatives of the Emirati diplomacy and its mission to the United Nations to manage the process of drafting and presenting the resolution and mobilizing international support  To him, which was evident through the decision obtaining a majority of 11 votes, so that those who did not vote for the resolution only abstained from voting and did not oppose it, and abstaining is tantamount to indirect approval.

According to the sources, the official silence of the Houthi militias towards the decision and their failure to comment on it reflected their feeling of the diplomatic and political defeat they received as a result of the Security Council’s vote on the resolution, which reflects the reality of the international community’s awareness of the terrorist crimes committed by the Houthi militias against the Yemeni people and their threat to neighboring countries and to the security and safety of international navigation.  And the decision comes to prove the wrongness of the directions of the administration of US President John Biden, which hastened to cancel the classification of Houthi militias from the list of terrorism, and this decision represented a strong message of encouragement that contributed to the Houthis feeling that they are strong and that they can do whatever they want without facing punishment.

On Monday, February 28, the UN Security Council adopted a resolution expanding the embargo on the delivery of weapons to Yemen to include all Houthis, after it was limited to specific individuals and companies.

The resolution, proposed by the UAE and drafted by the United Kingdom, states that the "entity" specified in its annexes, i.e. the Houthis, "will be subject to procedures related to the arms embargo" imposed on Yemen since 2015. The resolution, which was voted in favor by 11 countries, including Russia, also classified that:  The Houthis are a "terrorist group", for the first time.
