Well-informed sources in Sanaa said that the disputes between the leaders of the Houthi militia, the Iranian arm in Yemen, and the leaders of the Sanaa conference escalated in recent days, against the backdrop of the Houthis’ efforts to change the remaining leaders and conference officials who occupy some positions, especially within the framework of the local authorities of some governorates.
The sources added to NewsYemen, that the dispute escalated against the background of the militias seeking to change the governor of Ibb governorate, Abdul Wahed Salah, who is the only leader along with Hamoud Abbad, the mayor of the capital, Sanaa, who are affiliated with the conference, as they are members of the conference’s general committee, even if their orientations and performance are completely aligned with the Houthi militias’ policies and directions.
According to the sources, leaders within the Houthi militia are exerting great pressure on the head of the so-called Houthi Political Council, Mahdi al-Mashat, to issue a decision to dismiss the governor of Ibb Abdel Wahd Saleh on the pretext that he is a remnant of the regime of former President Ali Abdullah Saleh, as well as dismissing Hamoud Abbad from the position of Mayor of the capital and replacing them with militia leaders, specifically from Saada Governorate.
And media affiliated with the militias, led by Al-Hawiya channel and Radio Watan, the spokesperson for the Ministry of the Interior in the militia authority - whose position is held by the uncle of the militia leader Abdul Karim Amir Al-Din Al-Houthi - campaigns targeting, abuse and accusations against both Hamoud Abbad and Abdul Wahed Salah, and demands that they be replaced on allegations that they are corrupt and failed, and among the remnants of Afash system, according to their allegations.
The sources indicate that while Hammoud Abbad has the support of many militia leaders to remain in his position, even if he is affiliated with the Sana’a Conference, and among those leaders are members of the militia leader’s office, the head of the so-called political council itself, Mahdi Al-Mashat and his office manager Ahmed Hamid, and the leaders of the Sana’a Conference who Prefer him to remain faithful to the capital, even if he contradicts its directions. The governor of Ibb Abdul Wahed Salah only enjoys the support of the Sanaa conference leaders, who see no reason to change him and replace him with someone else, especially if he is from outside the governorate, which is what has arranged for him leaders within the Houthi militias that seek to appoint Governor of Ibb from the people of Saada Governorate.
The sources indicated that the leaders of the Sana’a conference told their counterpart in the Houthi militia that replacing Salah with a leader from outside the governorate may negatively affect the positions of the residents of the governorate, especially the leaders and members of the conference, and contribute to splitting the line of cohesion and calm experienced by the governorate, and gives justifications for many figures with popular weight to change their positions. Perhaps siding with the ranks of the supporters of the coalition.
On Saturday, he announced a meeting between the head of the so-called political council of the Houthis’ authority, Mahdi al-Mashat, and the governor of Ibb Abdul Wahed Salah, which included a reference to discussing the speed of implementation of service projects for the people, which the sources considered might be an attempt to find justifications to respond to the pressures exerted by leaders within the Houthi militia by changing a governor. Abu Salah is a leader belonging to the Houthi militia.
Following the martyrdom of former President Ali Abdullah Saleh and his companion, Secretary Aref Al-Zoka, following their leadership of the 2nd December 2017 uprising against the Houthi militia, the latter decided to take decisions on appointments, including decisions to appoint provincial governors, who were all replaced by militia members and leaders, with the exception of retaining the governor of Ibb Abd al-Wahed Salah, and the transfer of Abbad from The position of Governor of Dhamar to the position of Mayor of Sana’a, and they are the only two congressmen who remained, while the militias appointed the rest of the governors to the governorates under their control and even those outside their control from the loyal elements, and they replaced some of them with other elements as a result of differences between them and the supervisors appointed by the militias next to the governors who have become the ones who actually own Decision-making powers within the local authority of the governorate.
