Aden, NewsYemen:

The United Nations envoy to Yemen, Hans Grundberg, announced on Tuesday evening that he will start consultations next week with all Yemeni parties to develop a plan and framework for a comprehensive political settlement in the country.

In a new briefing to the Security Council, Grundberg told the Security Council that he will start a series of bilateral consultations with the warring parties, political parties, civil society, and Yemeni political, security and economic experts, stressing that these consultations are an opportunity for the Yemeni parties to chart a possible peaceful path forward.

The UN envoy condemned the Houthi attacks across the UAE border, and the hostile rhetoric against journalists, and said that despite the alarming escalation, ending the war in Yemen was "possible."

"I am developing a framework toward a comprehensive political settlement, including the establishment of a multi-track process that accommodates the warring parties within the context of a broader Yemeni agenda," he added.

He indicated that he will seek, through these consultations, to explore Yemenis' immediate and long-term priorities for the political, security, and economic tracks, their aspirations and vision for ending the conflict, including the inclusion of women.

He stressed that this is an opportunity for the Yemeni parties to chart a possible peaceful way forward.

Grundberg said that he will continue to explore options for de-escalation, explaining that he has engaged with the parties on possible compromises agreed upon by the parties, but he stressed that so far calls for restraint have remained unanswered.

He considered that the parties' pursuit of a perfect balance on the battlefield was futile.

He said that dialogue and settlement are required, and "the political process under the auspices of the United Nations is the best way forward."
