Many students on scholarships in some Arab and foreign capitals demonstrated in front of the Yemeni cultural attaches and embassies, demanding payment of their overdue dues, in addition to tuition fees.
The protests come in support of legitimate demands that were previously put forward by students on scholarships at; Malaysia, India, Sudan, Cairo, Morocco, Moscow, Germany and other capitals.
"NewsYemen" Connect with M. Husam Al-Dais, head of the Association of Yemeni Universities Delegates in Malaysia, to know the developments and the roots of the problem, who clarified many details and the reasons for the delay.
Al-Dais mentioned that the problem of late payment of financial dues is old and has existed for years, exacerbated by the Corona pandemic; Amid complete disregard by those concerned with scholarship affairs, led by the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research.
Pointing out the delay in the payment of dues for a whole year, as the ministry has not yet delivered neither the second, third, nor fourth quarter of 2021 in addition to the first quarter of this year, as well as tuition fees for the year (2022-2021).
Al-Dais adds, “Our problem is related to the work of the ministry. Otherwise, the Saudi grant has paid for four quarters, that is, dues for a full year and the same are tuition fees. Procrastination and delays have taken place in paying some quarters and fees and waiting for the rest of the dues.”
The head of the association accused the ministry of deliberately delaying, wondering at the same time; What prevents the disbursement of tuition fees and dues as long as the Saudi side has ensured that.
Pointing out that the matter has nothing to do with the current political situation inside the country, and that the problem exists in both cases, blaming the ministry for all the consequences.
Al-Dais suggested, via NewsYemen, that the ministry was supposed to feel a little ashamed of the students’ suffering, and quickly disburse what was monitored in order to cover the arrears, and to bridge the gap in the delay dues, as Dr. called it. Khaled Al-Wasabi, Minister of Higher Education.
In the context, Al-Daeis indicated that the attachés received the lists of names with the dues of the second and third quarters of the past year 2021, which are present and deliberate, but we do not know the reason for the delay, and when we ask, they are unable to review and amend some procedures.
He concluded by saying, We call on everyone to stand by the students on scholarships abroad, in order to pay all arrears, and the necessity of regular payment so that students can continue their studies and complete the required research and courses.
He pointed out that those concerned in the legitimate government and the Ministry of Higher Education are able to do so, but they do not want to, and every time new excuses arise that do not serve the students, stressing that the students will not stand idly by and there will be an escalation in Yemeni embassies and cultural attachés in several countries to demand the payment of all overdue dues.
