Electricity service in the capital, Aden, witnessed a significant deterioration during the past hours, amid warnings from Governor Ahmed Lamlas of a "popular trial" for all those responsible for this file, with the threat of his resignation.
Yesterday, the operating hours in Aden decreased to only two hours compared to five hours of extinguishing, after announcing that the Saudi Grant Fuel Control Committee had suspended diesel allocations to all power stations in the liberated governorates due to the non-payment of grant dues by the electricity branches on a regular basis on a monthly basis.
In light of this, the governor of Aden, Ahmed Hamed Lamlas, during his presidency, Monday, of the meeting of the Executive Office, accused the government of not complying with what was agreed upon with the local authority on addressing the electricity problem last November.
The governor’s speech, which was broadcast by the governor’s media, sounded remarkably sharp, as he vowed not to remain silent about the suffering of the people of Aden, and said: The negligent will be tried popularly in the electricity or otherwise, whoever he is a governor or an institution or government official, waving to submit his resignation as he said: “If We didn't offer her (Aden) anything, so there is no need for us to sit on this chair."
At the beginning of this month, the Electricity Corporation in Aden revealed a 60% decrease in the generation of government stations due to the lack of maintenance materials, in addition to operating leased power stations with a minimum of 100 megabytes only, in addition to the partial suspension of the operation of the President Petromasila station (100 megabytes) due to Aden availability of raw fuel to run it.
The Corporation said that the average daily loads and demand for electric current have risen to the highest load, 320 megawatts, during the past days, with available generation not exceeding 145 megawatts.
Informed sources said that these numbers paint a black picture of the electricity situation in Aden, two months away from entering the summer season, which is witnessing a significant increase in demand for electricity, pointing out that the electricity file in Aden suffers from countless problems and challenges.
On top of these problems and challenges, according to the sources, is the significant weakness in generation compared to the annual increase in demand for electricity in the city. The demand for electricity in Aden last summer reached more than 600 megawatts, and it is expected that this summer will reach 700 megawatts due to expansion Urbanization and the increase in commercial activity in the city with the continued displacement of the city.
Pointing out that the generation volume of the current stations does not exceed 200 megabytes if they operate at their maximum capacity and after carrying out maintenance operations and with the availability of fuel for them, which is financially costly given that most of them run on diesel fuel, and with the addition of the main station (Petromsila) 260 megabytes, the number is still Less than the order volume.
The sources explained that the stoppage of the President’s station is due to the dilemma that has emerged recently in securing fuel for it from crude oil, as the station requires about 10 thousand barrels per day to generate 260 megabytes, as the station lacks large tanks to secure fuel for it, in addition to the failure to complete the connection project, which depends on the entry of The station is in full force to the network.
Among the problems that compound the electricity crisis in Aden - as the sources say - is the large loss of electricity, which in previous periods amounted to 60% due to random connection and network wear, and at the end of last week, the Aden Electricity Corporation announced that its campaign to combat electrical waste succeeded in reducing the percentage. From 56% to 38%, but it is still a large number, according to the sources.
The sources confirmed that the electricity file in Aden and in the liberated areas needs a radical solution through strategic projects to build power plants to generate at least 2000 megawatts, varying between cheap energy such as natural gas or renewable energy such as wind and sun, which requires generous support for the coalition countries in this field.
