Aden, NewsYemen:

The editor-in-chief of The Eighth Day newspaper, journalist Saleh Abu Odal, said that the old General Ali Mohsen al-Ahmar is the godfather of al-Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula.

Abu Odal revealed the reasons that led to the decline of Al-Qaeda in launching its attacks on the Houthis loyal to Iran, after it was raising religious slogans that the Houthis are "rejectionists and Shiites."

Abu Odal said in an interview with AIC channel, "The old General Ali Mohsen al-Ahmar is the spiritual father of al-Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula, and he is one of the Afghan Arabs who recruited them to Afghanistan and then returned to contain them when they returned in the nineties of the last century, as part of the forces of the First Armored Division and involved them in  The war against the south in the summer of 1994 AD, and he granted them military ranks according to the testimony of the al-Qaeda institution in Egypt, Nabil Abu Naim, who emphasized that al-Ahmar granted al-Qaeda leaders military ranks and integrated them into his military forces, which Abu Awdal said did not fight against the Houthis.

Abu Odal confirmed that "Ali Mohsen al-Ahmar handed over Sanaa to the Houthis and fled towards the Saudi embassy in the Yemeni capital, and from there he was smuggled to Riyadh," noting that al-Ahmar does not want to defeat the Houthis, because he sees in their defeat a defeat for the political Zaidis, who believe that the rule of Yemen and the south "from  her right."

The editor-in-chief of the Eighth Day newspaper revealed that "the Houthis released leaders of al-Qaeda who were detained in the Political Security prison in Sana'a, as part of exchange deals with the Brotherhood of Yemen, which is led by the military, old General Ali Mohsen al-Ahmar."
