Commander of the Joint Forces: The Houthi militia has met all peace initiatives with flagrant violations
English - Wednesday 02 February 2022 الساعة 07:44 pmThe commander of the joint forces in Yemen, Lieutenant-General Mutlaq Al-Azima, confirmed that the Houthi militia fired 523 ballistic missiles and drones at civilians and civilian objects during 16 months.
Lieutenant-General Al-Azima said that the Houthi militia met all peace initiatives and attempts to calm down with "blatant" violations, according to the Saudi Press Agency, "SPA".
He pointed out that the Saudi-led Arab coalition decided on September 1, 2020, "to provide all opportunities for peace, build confidence, improve the atmosphere, and establish an argument against the enemies of peace, by stopping air strikes for eight months on all cities and camps, regardless of provocations and infringements."
He added that the coalition decided, after putting forward the Saudi peace initiative to end the Yemeni crisis, to continue for another eight months to stop and exercise restraint to allow the enabling atmosphere, motivate the Houthis, create opportunities, stop pretexts and expose falsehoods, despite the persistence and arrogance with which that initiative was met, and the Houthis' attacks continued in a way that went beyond the usual and expected.
He added that the Houthis "in return, during the 16 months, committed flagrant violations of international humanitarian law and its customary rules."
Al-Azima enumerated these violations, saying that the militia launched a total of 109 ballistic missiles and 414 booby-trapped drones at civilian objects and civilians, in addition to launching 52 booby-trapped boats and planting 110 naval mines indiscriminately in the southern Red Sea and Bab al-Mandab Strait.
He pointed out that the Houthi militia targeted civil airports in Abha, Najran and Jizan, as well as targeting saline water desalination plants, Saudi Aramco tanks, and vital civilian facilities in the cities of Riyadh and Dammam, in addition to targeting all Saudi border cities.
