US Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin announced the deployment of fifth-generation fighters in the region, to send a clear message that the United States stands by the UAE.
This came during a phone call he had early Wednesday morning with Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces.
The US Department of Defense said, in a statement, that Secretary Austin discussed with the Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi the recent Houthi attacks on civilian facilities in the UAE, reiterating his strong condemnation of the ongoing Houthi attacks.
added that the Minister of Defense stressed his commitment to the strategic partnership between the United States and the UAE, and the continuation of cooperation in providing information support and in the field of air defense.
According to the Pentagon statement, Secretary Austin assured Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan that the United States supports the UAE as a long-term strategic partner.
The statement continued, that Minister Austin informed the Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi that the United States intends to deploy fifth-generation combat aircraft in the region to send a clear message that the United States stands by the UAE.
