Sudanese newspaper quoted al-Qaeda members in Sudan as saying that the leader who was massacred was called “Abu Turab al-Sudani,” Rashad Qureshi Othman, from Khartoum, who joined the ranks of al-Qaeda from an early age in his youth, and fought within its forces in Afghanistan, Yemen and Somalia. , before settling in Yemen, where he rose in the combat organization, until he assumed the position of logistic officer at Al-Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula.
The newspaper quoted other sources as saying that Abu Turab al-Sudani, (Rashad Qureshi Othman), who was residing in the Kalakla suburb south of Khartoum, was affiliated with the Islamic Tendency Movement, which was led at that time by the Islamist leader Hassan al-Turabi. Abu Turab al-Sudani trained in popular defense camps, and joined With the Mujahideen Brigades that were fighting the popular movement led by John Garang in the theaters of military operations in southern Sudan, then he joined the National Service Forces, and worked in them for a long time before leaving Khartoum for Afghanistan in the year 2000.
From Afghanistan, Abu Turab al-Sudani moved to Yemen, joining its forces under the command of Abu Basir Nasir al-Wuhayshi, and he became the most prominent fighter who attracted and attracted Sudanese youth to al-Qaeda in Yemen. Then he took over the process of coordinating the reception of regiments of fighters coming from Sudan to Yemen, and then moved on to logistical work.
