$300 million, Yemen's revenues from fish exports in 2020

A source in the Ministry of Agriculture, Irrigation and Fisheries revealed that Yemeni fish export revenues amounted to $300 million in 2020, achieving a significant recovery over the challenges facing the fish sector since 2015.

The average production of Yemen of fish and other marine life last year was about 230 thousand tons, with a value of 650 million dollars, of which 110 thousand tons were exported to more than 50 countries at 300 million dollars.

The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia is the largest Arab market for which fresh Yemeni fish is exported, through the Al-Wadiah port, followed by the Sultanate of Oman through the Shahn port in Al-Mahra Governorate.

While the frozen fish is exported through the sea ports, the port of Aden and the port of Mukalla, to East Asia, South Africa and other countries.

In Yemen, there are four bodies according to geographical scope, which supervise export operations: the General Authority for Fisheries in the Gulf of Aden (Aden, Lahj, Abyan), the Arabian Sea Authority (Hadhramaut, Shabwa and Socotra), an authority in Al-Mahra Governorate, and the Red Sea Authority (Hodeidah, Taiz).  and argument."

Data from the Ministry of Agriculture, Irrigation and Fisheries indicate that the number of investment companies and export offices that are currently active in the Yemeni fish sector has reached more than 40 companies nationwide.

Hadhramaut governorate tops the list with about 32 companies and export offices, and Aden has seven companies and export offices.
