Marib, NewsYemen:

The United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) confirmed that about 44,000 people were displaced from the Ma’rib governorate after the Iranian-backed terrorist Houthi militia raised the pace of the widespread attack on the governorate in early February 2021, in the districts of Serwah, Al Rahba, and Al Abdiya.

The fund pointed out that nearly 4,000 families are stuck due to the militia's siege of the Abdiya area in Marib, where clashes are ongoing, despite reporting a severe shortage of medical supplies and other basic commodities in the area with no humanitarian access to it.

The recent escalation of the Houthi militia in the fighting across five districts on the administrative borders between the governorates of Al-Bayda and Marib led to more displacement.

The United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) expected more displacements, given the continued attacks of the Iranian-backed militia.

It is estimated that 70 per cent of the newly displaced are women.

The immediate needs, as reported by partners, include medical supplies, additional food assistance, non-food items, clothing, and protection of civilians still trapped between the front lines, the fund said.

It is also expected that more civilians will continue to flee due to the continued attacks of the Houthi militia, towards the east of the districts of Sarwah, Al Rahba, Al Juba, Harib and Marib, where the sites of the displaced are already crowded and the response capabilities are overstretched.
