Sana'a, NewsYemen, private:

A massive fire broke out on Saturday, July 31, in commercial stores in Sana'a.

According to local sources and eyewitnesses who spoke to (Newsmen), the fire, which lasted for hours, devoured 5 food stores in Al-Nasr neighborhood in Sa'wan, Shu'ub District.

On a large scale across Sanaa, plumes of smoke were seen rising thickly, while citizens rushed to try to put out the fire using water tankers (Waitat) especially for fear of the fire spreading.

While the causes of the fire are still ambiguous, the Houthi militia later announced that the fire had been put out and "prevented its spread to nearby homes and shops," noting that the fire resulted in material losses but no injuries.

This incident comes amid collection campaigns launched by the Houthi militia - the Iranian arm in Yemen - from time to time against the merchants and moneymen sector under many titles and names.
