Aden, NewsYemen:

The report "Index of Terrorism in the Arab Region" issued by the Maat Foundation for Peace and Development sheds light on the re-emergence of Al-Qaeda after its disappearance for a while, in Yemen.

The report indicated that after its role had diminished and had been relatively hidden in the Middle East, and in Yemen in particular, al-Qaeda re-emerged in the second quarter of 2021 to adopt about 5 large-scale terrorist operations, most of them against the security belt forces in the south of the country.

The report pointed out that this renewed threat to Al-Qaeda was alerted to the US State Department when the “Rewards for Justice” program of the US State Department, on June 24, 2021, provided a financial reward of $5 million in exchange for information regarding Al-Qaeda in Yemen, Khaled Batarfi.  In view of the recent incitement by al-Qaeda members in Yemen to spill the blood of the civilian population.

He added that the attempts to awaken "Al-Qaeda" to its activities in Yemen are not mere speculation, as intelligence reports confirmed that the organization trained fighters to carry out terrorist missions and is trying to network with local tribes.

The report indicated that part of the organization's return is linked to the Yemeni Congregation for Reform Party - the Yemeni branch of the Muslim Brotherhood - which sees al-Qaeda and its elements as a treasure.

As evidence of this - the report says - the organization attacked on May 17 a security headquarters in Abyan governorate.  On June 13, 2021, ISIS used explosive motorcycles to target a vehicle transporting soldiers from the Security Belt Forces near the Zanzibar market, which resulted in the killing and wounding of dozens of soldiers.
