Despite the deteriorating situation, Abyan's mothers make cakes to draw the Eid smile on the lips of their children

In the midst of a scene of pessimism that haunts families with low incomes after the price hike and the collapse of the riyal, and the interruption and delay of salaries, the mothers of Abyan Governorate insist on making Eid al-Adha sweets at home after their high prices in the shops, to draw a smile on the lips of their children.

These days, food stores in Abyan governorate are very crowded, as most of them buy flour, butter, crushed dates and sugar to make maamoul and Eid cakes.

Women usually gather at home to make Eid sweets at home, after they have purchased the basic materials for making sweets, because this is more economical, and the specifications of the candy are good and have a distinct flavor.

In this context, Umm Muhammad tells NewsYemen that the prices of ready-made sweets have become expensive and they cannot buy them, in contrast to the economic situation of families that prompted them to make sweets at home.

She added, standing in front of the oven of her small house, after waiting for the electricity to come for many hours: When we make Eid sweets at home, we feel the rituals of Eid al-Adha that existed previously, and at the same time we search for the most affordable things for us.

For her part, Souad Saleh, who came to her neighbor's house to help her make Eid sweets, said: "Two days ago, I bought a quantity of materials and I will make sweets at home because they are more affordable and taste better than the ones we buy from the market."

She points out that they offer cakes as a feast for children in the morning, as well as for parents and guests in the afternoon of Eid when visiting, where they bring joy and pleasure.

In the home of Geeta Heba Faraj, a number of women from the region gathered to participate in making sweets in a joyful weather despite the conditions the country is going through.

Geeta says to Newsymen, We women decided to make Eid sweets, so the idea was to meet with one of them and buy materials and share sweets.

The scene of sweets is part of a number of things that accompany the advent of Eid, which burdens families, and many families resort due to the difficult economic conditions and the high prices to dispense with buying Eid sweets by making them at home to reduce their expenses.  From families these days to high prices as well.

The feast has its own rituals, and most families try to live it in any way, defying the difficult economic and living conditions, perhaps changing and changing for the better.
