Aden, NewsYemen:

The Minister of Transport in the legitimate government, Abdul Salam Hamid, sent two official memoranda to the Gulf of Aden Ports Corporation and the General Authority for Maritime Affairs, regarding going to the site of a shipwreck off the port of Aden, and assessing the environmental damage caused by the oil spill.

On Sunday, a dilapidated ship owned by merchant Ahmed Al-Eissi, who is also the deputy director of the office of interim President Abd Rabbo Mansour Hadi, sank off the coast of Brega, and its cargo of oil spilled into the sea.

The sinking of the ship "Dia" resulted in significant environmental pollution on the coasts of Aden Governorate, and the spots of pollution spread to the Al-Haswa Nature Reserve, a few kilometers to the east, which portends an environmental disaster.

According to an official memo, the Minister of Transport directed the administration of the Aden Ports Corporation and the governmental Maritime Affairs Authority, "to go down jointly to the ship's site, assess the environmental damage and take the necessary measures, by removing it from the area to avoid what it might cause stopping and impeding the movement of ships."

He also directed "to submit an urgent report on the assessment and what can be done to address the matter."

The memorandum stressed, "the necessity of summoning the shipping official of the Overseas Company (owned by the merchant close to the Brotherhood, Ahmed Al-Eissi), which owns the ship, to bear his responsibility in addressing the problem and the resulting damages."
