Aden, NewsYemen, Heba Al-bohry:

"I am forced to prevent my children from going out and playing with their friends during the days of Eid this year, because they do not have new clothes to play with their peers, who will certainly appear beautiful Eid clothes on them.  In a voice filled with the bitterness of a harsh life, the educationalist in the city of Aden (YNA A. A.) tells.

He adds: “Even if the salaries are paid, they “do not get fat and do not sing from hunger,” because he receives a salary of about 50,000 riyals (equivalent to 50 dollars), this amount does not meet anything of the needs of the multiple families, coinciding with a wave of exorbitant prices.  In clothes, food and essential purchases,” he said.

Endless suffering

Amidst many excuses and promises, the Eid is about to come and the teacher education teacher (YNA A. A.) is still looking for someone to borrow money from to buy Eid clothes for his children in light of a critical situation in which the teachers’ salaries have been delayed, and unfortunately he has not found what he is looking for yet, as he says  .

Only 14,000 male and female teachers in the capital, Aden, suffer from what the educational “YNA” suffers from, as statistics indicate that the total number of teachers in the governorates of southern Yemen is about 96,000, including 14,000 in the coastal city, according to statements  A former media officer for the Southern Teachers and Educators Syndicate.

Eid al-Adha is an exceptional one that robs the children of educators of the joy of the feast, which Aden is experiencing this year, in light of the collapse of the Yemeni riyal against foreign currencies and the collapse of the economic situation, and what worsened the situation was “the delay in their salaries.”

unfair wages

"The suffering of male and female teachers in Aden is not limited to the delay in salaries only, but it has been for years due to the suspension of annual bonuses and the rise in the currency, which had major repercussions on the teacher, as the teachers of 2011 receive an estimated amount (53 thousand riyals) less than fifty dollars," says the educational  Hana Ahmed, a teacher at Aden Model High School for Girls - Mansoura.

The teacher, Hana, complained about the meager salaries with more than 35 years of service, to receive only 120 thousand, that is, (120 dollars) only, and the continuous collapse of the currency.  Emphasizing that even if salaries are paid, they will not meet the purpose of purchasing power amid the crazy rise in prices.

Forgotten teachers

The head of the media and cultural department of the Southern Teachers and Educators Syndicate of the capital, Aden, was surprised.  Rahma Aidarous, on how the teacher will accept “Eid al-Adha” without a salary... While the value of the rice basket today is higher than his salary, as the teacher suffers from low salaries (40-50) thousand riyals, and who demanded repeatedly and knocked on government doors to address his living situation, and did not find  No response, she said.

She wondered, how today can he buy a sacrifice that exceeds three times his monthly salary, other than his suffering in paying his daily expenses of eating and drinking in light of the lack of water and some are forced to buy water from the "boss" at an amount and his amount, and the high rents that have reached hard currency.  She summarized the situation that the citizen will continue to suffer between destitution and the loss of a decent life.

Lack of chances for improvement

The biggest problems of educators and citizens do not lie in the delay in salaries. The collapse of the Yemeni currency has ravaged their diaries, and recorded a huge collapse in recent times, as he broke the barrier of one thousand riyals for every one dollar only, which led to a huge collapse in the savings of the citizen, as he will face an outrageous price wave.  In buying only the basic necessities for living, instead of those luxuries that he would not be able to reach with his meager salary.

Poverty is the master of the scene

In addition, the journalist, Abdul Rahman Anis, says that the collapse of the national currency and the loss of the Yemeni riyal more than two-thirds of its value against the dollar is the worst of the war, which has entered its seventh year.

He added, that the collapse of the currency affected the simple citizen in his livelihood and the livelihood of his children, explaining that the citizen who received the equivalent of 300 dollars before 2015, his salary today is equivalent to 60 dollars, meaning that he is living on two dollars a day, which has exacerbated the state of poverty and famine and exacerbated  The burdens that the citizen suffers from.

He pointed out that the countries of the Arab coalition and relief organizations must today stop distributing cartons of dates and cans of beans and turn with all their support towards the national currency only. Without restoring the national currency to its health, no partial relief solutions will work, and poverty and hunger will remain the master of the scene in Yemen.

miserable childhood

UNICEF said earlier that nearly 2.3 million children under the age of five are expected to suffer from acute malnutrition in 2021. 400,000 of them are expected to suffer from severe acute malnutrition, with the possibility of death if they are not  They get urgent treatment.

dead purchasing power

With the collapse of the economy and the slump of the Yemeni riyal, purchasing power deteriorated ahead of Eid al-Adha. Nabil, the owner of a clothing store, said that purchasing power had declined very significantly, with the crazy rise in prices, and he also complained that he was unable to buy new goods while  Wholesalers raised prices in conjunction with the dollar's rise, stressing that it caused him a huge loss in terms of paying the exorbitant rent of the store in addition to the generator fuel costs.

Close shops

Mona Al-Khidr, the owner of the "Styly Kids" store, confirmed earlier, on her official page, that the store's doors were closed and the sale was completely stopped, due to the jump in dollar prices against the collapsed Yemeni riyal, which recorded today a thousand Yemenis per dollar.

 Famine threatens millions

It is noteworthy that the estimates of the analysis of the humanitarian needs overview document for the year 2021 issued by the humanitarian country team in Yemen on February 22 of this year, indicate that more than 20.7 million people are in need of humanitarian assistance for the current year, while it is estimated that 12.1 million of them  Urgent need of humanitarian aid.

Yemen was among the poorest countries in the Arab world even before the outbreak of fighting in early 2015. With a life expectancy of less than 64, Yemen ranks 177 out of 189 in the 2019 Human Development Index.

Yemen, wracked by war for the seventh year in a row, is experiencing the worst humanitarian crisis in the world.
