Sana'a, NewsYemen, private:

The residents of Sana’a and its governorates, during Eid al-Adha 2021, received an additional price dose of domestic gas, which is in high demand for its consumption on such religious occasions.

The Houthi militia - the Iranian arm in Yemen - raised the price of a 20-liter domestic gas cylinder from (6380) riyals to (7520) riyals, an increase of (1140) riyals in the price of one cylinder.

Sanaa residents complain about the difficulty of obtaining a domestic gas cylinder despite the record high price, and the Houthi militia exploits the population's need for this substance to achieve political goals and financial profits through extortion and illegal means.

On July 6, Muhammad Ahmed Al-Hashemi, appointed as First Undersecretary of the Ministry of Industry run by the Houthi militia in Sana'a, revealed the arrival of two ships carrying a shipment of household gas, estimated at between 150 and 200,000 cylinders of household gas, which he said would reach the capital, Sana'a.  He considered the declared amount of gas to be "a quantity capable of restoring stability to the capital Sana'a and ending the crisis."

The (hypothetical) government official's speech came at a public meeting announced to be held in Sana'a to discuss the procedures for providing and distributing household gas in the capital Sana'a.

According to (Saba) agency in its Houthi version, "the meeting, which included the owners of gas stations in Amanat Al-Asimah, touched on the difficulties facing the provision and distribution of domestic gas and ways to treat it in a way that contributes to alleviating the suffering of citizens."

Without tangible practical solutions, the deputy minister of industry in Sana'a, Muhammad Ahmed Al-Hashemi, drew "the government's readiness to provide all necessary facilities to ensure the provision of household gas, its distribution and its flow in the required manner."
