On Thursday and Friday, the Nujaiba cattle market witnessed a stagnation in the prices of livestock intended for sale as sacrifice, with the approach of Eid al-Adha this year.

The prices of livestock fell to low numbers at around 50,000 riyals per head, compared to 80,000 riyals last year.

The decline in prices created a division among the rural population, as some considered it a blessing that allows them to be able to buy sacrifices in proportion to their financial income.

However, livestock breeders considered it a setback for their hopes, as they aspired to achieve appropriate profits, especially since all livestock breeders from among the citizens did not exceed ten heads.

Jamal Saeed, one of the livestock sellers in Al-Nujaiba market, commented that the demand for buying livestock witnessed a great reluctance this year, compared to last year, which witnessed a significant increase in demand with the increase in the price of the sacrifice, but this year its price decreased by 30% compared to what it was in the year  the past.

Saeed attributed the reason for the low prices, to the increase in supply in the markets two weeks ago, and the lack of buyers due to the high prices and the increase in the depreciation of the local currency.

Ibrahim Ahmed believes that the reason that contributed to the decline in the prices of local livestock is the increase in the import of foreign livestock while enjoying low prices, compared to the prices of local livestock.

Hussein Zubaidi expected that prices will change during the next three days that precede the Eid, as the receipt of employees, especially the military, their salaries will push prices to rebound again.

During the past weeks, Mocha witnessed an increase in the movement of livestock imports, as the importers' pens were filled with thousands of them.

On Thursday, a government official informed NewsYemen that livestock traders intend to transport 15,000 heads of livestock from the Horn of Africa countries during Friday and Saturday, denying his knowledge of the size of the final numbers brought to the country.
