Professor Yusef Muhammad Abdullah, Professor of History and Archeology at Sana'a University, passed away after a life full of scientific and practical research in the fields of history sciences, the discovery of archaeological inscriptions, and decoding the ancient lines of Yemeni civilizations, to unveil one of the most important scientific figures for more than 5 decades.

Yusef died in a dangerous period of conflict, the first of which was the Yemeni people and the other, the "arm of Iran" in Yemen. Hence, observers ’estimate of the size of this loss at the present moment.

A militia’s vision for the history of Yemen

In one of his lectures, Hussein al-Houthi, before his death in 2004, expressed his displeasure with the excessive interest in history and antiquities in general and Yemen in particular, as he underestimated their importance and role, given that this comes at the expense of Islamic history, according to him.

Al-Houthi attacked the civilizations of Hamir, Sheba, and Ma'in, and mocked the pillars of the "Throne of Bilqis" in Marib during his speech, and of the "Assyrian" civilization in the countries of Iraq and the Levant and the "Pharaonic" in Egypt.

That vision, according to observers, lies in the extremist ideology of this group, which does not differ much from ISIS except with ideological issues, in addition to its approach by which it wants to change many concepts, including the ancient history of Yemen.

Clear signs that reflected a reality represented in the marginalization of Iran's arm of the staff of Sana'a Scientific University, the suspension of their salaries, and the confiscation of their places of residence as part of a punishment for their bidding.

Yusef is not a passing name

At the time when all parties abandoned the scholars of Sanaa University, their experiences were present despite its deliberate marginalization, for example Dr. Youssef, who is considered an argument in the sciences of history, and the discoverer of the "Yemeni Zabur line", and the first to write a research book to read daily life in ancient Yemen in the Zabur line And the translator of the poem "Hymn of the Sun", which comes as a constitution and the national anthem.

He also worked as a professor of antiquities and the ancient Yemeni language in the Department of History at the Faculty of Arts, Sana'a University, as a vice president of the linguistic complex, a former president of the General Authority for Antiquities and Manuscripts, and an advisor to the President of the Republic.

According to the sources, the professor was keen during his life to collect all antiquities and manuscripts in lists and number them, so as not to be subjected to robbery and smuggling, in addition to circulating and linking them with many important Arab museums in Iraq and elsewhere.

D. Youssef is very much searching for knowledge and learning the language of others and their civilizations, in addition to his keenness to obtain many certificates in the seventies, eighties and nineties.

His scientific career began in the capital, Aden, and studied elementary and middle school before joining the American University in Lebanon, to obtain a bachelor’s degree, then a master’s degree in 1970.

Yusef Muhammad Abdullah headed west to the Federal Republic of Germany, and there he joined the University of "Tübingen", from which he obtained his doctorate in 1975 AD, and in 1980 he obtained the German "Alexandrefon Humboldt" degree in post-doctoral scientific research.

Youssef became an important lecturer, moving between Arab and Western universities and the universities of Sana'a and Aden. He held important administrative and academic positions in the country during the eighties and nineties of the last century and even after 2002.

Historical and scientific reference

Professor Youssef left a large collection of references, literature, research and studies. He has more than 10 research books in addition to his proficiency in many languages such as English and German, and his specialization in ancient languages, writings and inscriptions.

As a result, he received many certificates, medals and medals in appreciation of his scientific efforts, and his name has also appeared at the forefront of the list of distinguished scientists in the world in various scientific and human disciplines.

Yusef Muhammad Abdullah 1943-2021 is the number (5) among those who left the "College of Archeology" in recent years, and the number (4) among the scholars of history also among those who died in difficult circumstances in which they lived and the country recently.

In a statement on its Facebook page, the faculty union at Sana'a University mourned the departure of Professor / Yusuf Muhammad Abdullah, old professor of archeology at the Department of Archeology and Tourism, College of Arts and Humanities, which it considered a great loss for Sana'a University and Yemen.

The militia punishes history

The suspension of the salaries of Sana'a University academics was part of a broad punishment taken by Iran's arm to divert them from taking care of the history and civilization of Yemen and devoting efforts to teaching its own curriculum.

Among those who were subjected to this punishment d. Youssef Mohammed Abdullah, d. Hussein Al-Omari, Dr. Sayed Mustafa, an Egyptian who was granted Yemeni nationality at the beginning of 80 AD for his contributions. His apartment was confiscated days before his death and its contents were tampered with by the Houthi militia.

These three have contributed significantly and directly to the development of the educational process in Yemeni universities and to determine the paths of Yemeni history and through their holding of high positions in the state.
