Aden, NewsYemen:

The United States has urged the Houthis to stop their advance towards Marib, to stop all military operations, and to switch to negotiations.

In a statement issued by it, the US State Department described the Houthi attack on Marib as the work of a group not committed to peace or ending the war that afflicted the Yemeni people.

The statement said that the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs estimates that about one million Yemenis have sought refuge in Marib since the beginning of the war to escape Houthi violence. Marib is under the control of the legitimate government in Yemen.

He added: This attack will only increase the number of internally displaced persons and exacerbate the humanitarian crisis in Yemen, which is already home to the world's worst humanitarian disaster, and if the Houthis are serious about reaching a negotiated political solution, they must stop all military advances and refrain from actions. Other destabilizing and deadly, including cross-border attacks on Saudi Arabia.

The statement called on the Houthi militia to engage constructively in the United Nations-led political process and to seriously engage in the diplomatic effort led by the US special envoy to Yemen, Tim Lenderking. It is time to end this conflict, there is no military solution.
