Aden, NewsYemen:

The Iranian Foreign Ministry announced the imposition of sanctions on the US ambassador to Yemen, Christopher Hanzel, for "his pivotal role in the humanitarian crisis in Yemen," as the ministry claimed.

The Iranian announcement, which aroused widespread ridicule, among the pioneers of social media platforms, is a response to the sanctions imposed by the US administration on the representative of the Revolutionary Guards to the Houthi militia, Hassan Erlo.

On Tuesday, the United States imposed sanctions on Hassan Irloo, who is described as the Iranian military ruler of Sanaa.

The US Treasury Department said in a statement that Hassan Irloo, who presents himself as Iran's ambassador to Yemen on his Twitter account, is "an official in the Quds Force" of the Iranian Revolutionary Guard.

The ministry added that Irloo is also "the Iranian regime's envoy to the Houthi rebels" in Yemen, which is witnessing a war.

The ministry considered that "Iranian support for the Houthis, in which the Quds Force in the Revolutionary Guard spearheads it, continues to push instability in Yemen, which is witnessing the most serious humanitarian crisis in the world."  In return, the Yemeni government is supported by a military coalition led by the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.

US Treasury Secretary Stephen Mnuchin said the appointment of Irloo to represent Tehran "shows the Iranian regime's lack of will to resolve the conflict."
