Aden, NewsYemen, Exclusive:

The United Nations said that it needs two billion and 600 million dollars during the year 2021 to avoid starvation in Yemen, with a decrease of 800 million dollars from its request in 2020 of 3 billion and 400 million dollars, which it failed to collect half of this year.

In recent months, UN agencies have stepped up warnings that millions of Yemenis are heading more towards hunger in the coming months, but have largely failed to pressure donors to provide more money.

Donor countries have expressed their dissatisfaction with providing assistance to a relief operation that is being obstructed by the Houthi militia, at the same time that it was exposed to economic problems due to the emerging coronavirus.

The Executive Director of the World Food Program, David Beasley, indicated that the Houthi militia prevented the establishment of the monitoring systems that are required by donors, in exchange for the payment of money deducted from their taxpayers.

David Beasley said, rather than being able to focus on providing life-saving food assistance to the people who need it most, we've spent the past two years trying to convince the Houthis, to overcome these unnecessary barriers.

He added worse still, the endless delays by the Houthi militia have caused major donors to lose confidence that we will be able to ensure that the right people get the support they need.

Beasley called on the Houthi militia to show its willingness to help, by meeting the seven preconditions set by the donors in February 2020, stressing that of the seven conditions, five have yet to be met, although we are making slow progress in all of them.
