The British Maritime Trade Operations Center said on its website early Saturday that it had knowledge of an attack on a ship off the coast of Yemen.

According to the published coordinates, the attack took place off the city of Qishn, in the Mahra governorate overlooking the Arabian Sea.

The site did not clarify the nature of the attack, or the identity of the ship, pointing out that investigations are still ongoing.

The Houthi militia - the Iranian arm in Yemen - from time to time, conducts terrorist operations with booby-trapped boats off the Yemeni coast and in its vicinity.

Piracy groups are also active in some parts of international waters off the coast of Yemen, which often originate from the Horn of Africa.

During the past six years, the international coalition forces have thwarted several attempts to smuggle Iranian weapons across the eastern coast of Yemen, especially off the Mahra governorate, and those weapons were on their way to the Houthi coup militia.
