Yemen ranks lowest in the indicators of development, hunger and happiness

Yemen scored the lowest in the international reports and indicators, for indicators of human development, human capital, hunger, and global happiness, and it was unable to maintain the achievements that were achieved in the period a decade ago.
Yemen ranked 177 out of 189 countries in the 2019 Human Development Report, down from 160 in 2014, as a result of its exposure to economic and financial shocks that affected development and social indicators in general.
Yemen's classification among the countries with low human development, according to the 2019 report issued by the United Nations Development Program, is due to some of the challenges facing human development in Yemen, the high maternal mortality ratio of 38.5% per 100,000 live births, according to the latest estimates in 2015.
In addition to the decrease in the skilled workforce to 21.1% of the total workforce during 2010-2018, and the increase in the rate of workers at risk to 45.4% of the total workforce for the year 2018.
While the percentage of the population living in multidimensional poverty increased to 47.7% during 2017, it was offset by a decrease in the female labor force participation rate compared to males, reaching 6% compared to 70.8% for males for age groups 15 and over in 2018.
In the human capital index, Yemen ranked 130 with a rate of 35.48, which is the last place in the ranking of countries, compared to 124 in the 2015 report, according to the latest report of the World Economic Forum.
The Human Capital Report defines the knowledge and skills that people possess that enable them to create value in the economic system. The report measures the performance of 130 countries around the world.
And based on the results of the Global Hunger Index 2019 report, Yemen ranks among the worst countries in the index, ranking 116 out of 117 countries.
According to the World Happiness Report, Yemen is considered among the least happy countries in the world. Yemen ranked 146th out of a total of 153 countries included in the report. The Happiness Index is a measure of how happy people are and a tool to help countries guide their public policies.
