Mocha, NewsYemen:

On Friday, the United Nations considered that a mobile clinic belonging to the UAE Red Crescent in Taiz, western Yemen, was attacked by unknown armed men, a terrible violation of international humanitarian law.

The United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs in Yemen said in a statement that unidentified gunmen attacked a mobile medical clinic run by the UAE Red Crescent in the Mocha district of Taiz governorate, while the clinic’s staff was providing medical services to the people of Al-Mashqar village.

The United Nations Humanitarian Coordinator for Yemen, Lise Grande, urged that the perpetrators of the attack be identified and brought quickly to justice.

Grande said "Humanitarian agencies in Yemen are working around the clock to provide life-saving aid to millions of Yemenis in one of the most difficult environments in the world," Grande said. "The attack on those who help people survive is a terrible violation of international humanitarian law."

At the conclusion of the statement, Grandi warned that "Yemen is facing a real danger of widespread famine," stressing the need to fund the humanitarian operation to save the lives of people who will face starvation.

According to the statement, Yemen is one of the most dangerous work environments in the world, as humanitarian workers face acts of detention and harassment, especially in areas under the control of the Houthi militia, and their visas are arbitrarily denied or withdrawn, and humanitarian organizations are subject to multiple and continuous restrictions and obstacles, which affects over 9 million people who need aid.
