Aden, NewsYemen:

Parliament Speaker Sheikh Sultan al-Burakani met Monday evening the UN envoy to Yemen Martin Griffiths, and they reviewed in the meeting the prospects for a political settlement to be announced soon.

Al-Burakani stressed that peace is the option of the believers, not the Houthi group, which has worked to violate all agreements, the most recent of which was Stockholm.

He pointed out that what happened in the Al-Duraihimi district by the Houthi militia of killing citizens, striking factories and facilities, and burning food stores is a clear escalation that this group rejects the peace process.

The head of the council briefed the UN envoy about what is happening in Marib and Al-Jawf, and how the militia violates agreements and plundered central bank funds in Hodeidah and did not comply with calls warning of the explosion of the Safer Reservoir.

The Speaker of the House of Representatives held the United Nations and its special envoy fully responsible for those practices carried out by the Houthis against the Yemeni people, believing that the United Nations stands identical to these practices.

Al-Burkani pointed out that the calls for peace, calm, and a ceasefire do not come except in times of need for the Houthis, and not to stop the bleeding.

In the same context and on another topic, the Speaker of the House of Representatives briefed the envoy of the Secretary-General of the United Nations, on the current arrangements for the implementation of the Riyadh Agreement.

The two sides also appreciated the fraternal role of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia in efforts to stabilize security, peace and stability in Yemen and its support for the Yemeni people in all fields.

For his part, the UN envoy to Yemen, Martin Griffiths, expressed his regret for the many casualties as a result of the violent confrontations that dominated the situation during the last period.

Noting that these events reduce the chances of peace, and an end to the suffering of Yemenis by reaching a political settlement.

He considered what is currently happening in Hodeidah is unacceptable and undermines all chances for peace.
