Aden, NewsYemen:

The Special Envoy of the United Nations Secretary-General to Yemen, Martin Griffiths, expressed his grave concern about the recent military escalation in Hodeidah Governorate and the reports received about a number of civilian casualties, including women and children.

While Griffiths ignored, in a statement issued today and published on his official website, to name the party behind this escalation.

He sufficed by saying that "the military escalation does not represent a violation of the ceasefire agreement in Hodeidah only, but it conflicts with the spirit of the existing negotiations sponsored by the United Nations to reach to a ceasefire throughout Yemen, humanitarian and economic measures, and the resumption of the political process.

In his statement, the UN envoy added, "I am working with all parties, and I appeal to them to stop the fighting immediately, respect their commitments in the Stockholm Agreement and interact with the joint implementation mechanisms of the United Nations mission to support the Hodeidah Agreement."

The Houthi militia had escalated its continuous daily violations since the signing of the Stockholm Agreement to attacks and several attempts to field march on several fronts in Hodeidah during the past two weeks, which required the joint forces to confront them.
