Nizar Haitham, spokesman for the Southern Transitional Council, announced on Sunday night that an attempt to circumvent the contents of the Riyadh Agreement by Islah party had been foiled, the local branch of the Muslim Brotherhood.

The statement of the southern transitional spokesman came, commenting on the tension that erupted on Saturday evening, after armed groups loyal to the Brotherhood reached Al-Alam point in Abyan governorate, with the intention of moving towards the Sabiha area in Lahj governorate, before the “Islah” militia left the coastal city of Shuqrah to Marib, according to an agreement Riyadh.

"We assure our great southern people, at home and abroad, that matters are under total control, and there is no longer any cause for concern," Haitham said, in a press release, published on the official website of the Southern Transitional Council.

He explained that there were attempts to circumvent the contents of the Riyadh Agreement, by the Brotherhood, "stressing that the leadership of the Southern Transitional Council had met with categorical rejection.

He added, "The position of the coalition led by the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia was positive and fruitful by returning these mechanisms to their previous positions after a case of undue tension."

The spokesperson for the Southern Transitional Council confirmed that matters have returned to normal, and the Council will continue its efforts towards the proper implementation of the agreement, while the southern forces will remain in full combat readiness and willingness to implement any defensive tasks.
