The Houthi militia, Iran's arm in Yemen, has officially banned the circulation of the new edition of the national currency issued by the Central Bank of Yemen in Aden.

Since the new edition was circulated in the local market, the Houthi militia has carried out seizures, looting and confiscation of millions of riyals, from commercial companies, exchange shops, wholesalers and retailers, under the pretext that they were issued by the Central Bank of Yemen in Aden.

The Houthi militia officially banned the circulation of the new edition, giving merchants and exchange companies as well as citizens in its areas of control 30 days to get rid of the new currency, and those who violate will face forgery and imprisonment for a year.

He noted that a meeting of the so-called High Economic Committee of the Houthis ended with a consensus that traders, exchange companies and all citizens would be given 30 days to dispose of local currencies in their new edition.

According to the sources, the Houthi militia will be charged after the 30-year deadline for forgery to anyone in its areas of influence who are found to be dealing with new currencies, in addition to imposing a one-year prison sentence.
